House of Lebanon Cultural Center

Location: Los Angeles, CA
The design of the House of Lebanon is inspired by the wooden vessels that allowed the Phoenicians to embark from the shores of Lebanon to explore the world. The gently curving wooden beams that frame the interior of this community building are a metaphor for the ribs of their boats. It is a vessel that can take you home. It provides shelter, it nurtures you, it transports you. Its cargo is a cultural treasure chest deposited on the shores of another land. This 2 story, 12,000 sf structure contains conference and meeting rooms, assembly spaces, library and classroom areas to help re-connect the resident population with their homeland.
